2012

Chrysalis is a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles County dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment. Chrysalis' philosophy is that a steady job is the single most important step in a person's transition out of poverty. Offering a hand up, rather than a hand out, Chrysalis empowers its clients to complete a self-directed job search.

Through entrepreneurship education, the network for teaching entrepreneurship inspires young people from low-income communities to stay in school, recognize business opportunities and plan for successful futures.

Science and Food is a program at UCLA that aims to increase public awareness of good science and food; educate people about the origins of what we eat; and engage students and young researchers in science through the context of food and cooking.

The LA Regional Food Bank provides food for nearly 900 member agency sites including abused and abandoned children homes, battered women shelters, senior centers, local food pantries, soup kitchens, AIDS hospices and more. In 2010, they distributed 62 million pounds of food for the hungry in Los Angeles county.

KCRW is SoCal's leading National Public Radio affiliate, featuring an eclectic mix of music, news, information and cultural programming. The station boasts one of the nation's largest arrays of locally-produced, nationally-distributed talk program content.

As part of the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture, the Hammer Museum continues to enrich the Westwood community through their art collections, exhibitions and programs. The Hammer Museum examines the depth and diversity of artistic expression through the centuries with a special emphasis on art of our time.


2011

St. Vincent Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers nutritious meals to homebound seniors and other vulnerable residents across LA. In 2010 they prepared and served a total of 1,172,282 meals—an average of 3,212 meals per day.
